تعريف الكوارث الطبيعية
يمكن تعريف الكوارث الطبيعية بأنّها مجموعة من الأنشطة الطبيعية العنيفة المتطرفة التي تحدث بشكل مباغت ومفاجئ لا يسمح للإنسان باتخاذ التدابير الاحتياطية اللازمة للتخفيف من أثارها التدميرية، علاوة على ذلك فهذه الأنشطة تصيب أماكن مأهولة بالسكان مسببة خسائر بشرية فادحة، ولا يمكن إعفاء الإنسان من المسؤولية، فالأعمال البشرية الجائرة بيئياً لها أحياناً دور كبير في حدوث مثل هذه الكوارث
أسباب حدوث الكوارث الطبيعية
هنالك سببان رئيسيان لوقوع الكوارث الطبيعية هما:
الظواهر الطبيعية:
يعزي السبب وراء هذه الظواهر إلى إطلاق الأرض جزءاً من طاقتها الهائلة ليصل تأثيرها إلى سطح الأرض، ومن الأمثلة على هذه الظواهر: الزلازل، والبراكين، والأعاصير.
الأنشطة البشرية:
يقوم الإنسان بالعديد من الأنشطة الغير مسؤولة؛ كالاختيار الخاطئ لمواقع مساكنه ومنشآته، وإهمال اتخاد التدابير اللازمة للحماية من مخاطر الظواهر الطبيعية.
أمثلة على الكوارث الطبيعية
هناك العديد من الأمثلة على الكوارث الطبيعية، منها ما يلي:
البراكين:
انتبه الإنسان منذ القدم إلى فتحات أو شقوق في القشرة الأرضيّة تخرج منها غازات محبوسة في جوف الأرض ومواد منصهرة على شكل حمم من نار، إنّها البراكين.
تتراكم هذه الحمم أو تنساب حسب نوعها لتكوّن أشكالا أرضيّة مختلفة منها التلال المخروطة أو الجبال البركانية العالية.
يتكوّن البركان من جبل مخروطي الشكل ومن فوهة ومن مدخنة أو قصبة.
نجد ثلاثة أنواع من البراكين: منها ما يقذف الغازات فقط ومنها ما هو جامد ومنها ما هو مستيقظ .
فقوّة البركان ومدّة بقائه ملتهبا تكون حسب وفرة الغازات وتركيبة الحمم البركانية فيه.
الزلازل:
هي هزّات أرضية تصيب قشرة الأرض. فباطن الأرض في حركة دائمة، فالهزّات المستديمة تكون عادة ضعيفة إلى حدّ أنّنا لا نشعر بها ولا تحسّها إلا أجهزة الرصد.
تنشأ الزلازل نتيجة لسببين هما:
– تحرّكات المواد الصخريّة الذائبة في أسفل الأرض.
– حدوث تشقّق أو تكسّر في قشرة الأرض، فتتصدع الجدران والطرقات وتنهار الجسور وتندلع بسببه الحرائق نتيجة اشتغال أنابيب الغاز والزلازل نوعان:
منها ما تحدث في المناطق التي تصيبها الانكسارات، ومنها ما يوجد مركزها على عمق سحيق من الأرض.
الإعصار:
يتمثل الإعصار في عاصفة هوائية عنيفة في شكل قمع تتميز بغيمة مخروطية دوارة، دوّامة ريحيّة قويّة يمكن أن تصل سرعتها إلى 480 كم/س.
تحدث هذه العواصف العنيفة بشكل خاص في مناطق أمريكا الوسطى والجنوبية إضافة إلى بعض المناطق بالولايات المتحدّة الأمريكيّة.
فالأعاصير من أخطر الكوارث الطبيعية على وجه الأرض، فهي تنسف بعيدا وبسرعة فائقة كل ما يعترضها من أشجار وسيارات وماشية وحتى الإنسان لم يسلم من خطرها.
الفيضانات:
هي من أكثر الظواهر الطبيعيّة تكرارا وإثارة للكوارث الطبيعيّة على الإطلاق. فاستمرار هطول الأمطار بغزارة ولمدّة طويلة وعلى نطاق واسع يسبب الفيضانات. وهذه الفيضانات شائعة في المناطق الجبلية حيث تكثر الأمطار والتساقطات الثلجية. ويتسبب ذلك في التآكل السريع لأديم الأرض فتصبح الترب والنباتات غير قادرة على استيعاب تلك المياه وبالتالي يحدث الفيضان.
الجرف الثلجي:
انتبه الإنسان منذ القدم إلى فتحات أو شقوق في القشرة الأرضيّة تخرج منها غازات محبوسة في جوف الأرض ومواد منصهرة على شكل حمم من نار، إنّها البراكين.
هو سقوط فجئي لكميات كثيرة من الثلج من قمم الجبال. عندما تهب عاصفة ثلجيّة تنتقل الكتل الثلجية وتنزلق نحو الأسفل حاملة معها كل ما يعترضها من صخور وجذوع الأشجار. وهي خطيرة جدا لأنّها تستطيع أن تغمر القرى وأن تسدّ الطرقات والسكك الحديديّة وهي غالبا ما تكون ناتجة عن رياح قويّة، وارتفاع في درجات الحرارة وتساقط كثيف للثلج. وعادة ما تحدث الانهيارات إثر الزلازل.

هي أمواج بحرية عالية الطاقة؛ حيث يصل الطول الموجي لها إلى نحو 100 كم، ويعزى سبب تشكل هذه الأمواج إلى الاندفاعات البركانية والزلازل في قاع المسطحات المائية الضخمة، بالإضافة إلى الانزلاقات الأرضية
