Pour aller chez sa grand-mère, le Petit Chaperon rouge devait traverser la forêt et elle y rencontra Monsieur le Loup. Le loup était tout noir. Il avait les yeux jaunes et il avait l’air très méchant. Il aurait bien voulu dévorer la petite fille, mais les bûcherons qui travaillaient dans la forêt lui faisait peur. Il lui demanda alors où elle allait. La petite fille qui ne savait pas qu’il est dangereux de parler à un loup lui répondit :
– Je vais voir ma grand-mère. Je lui apporte cette galette et ce petit pot de beurre.
– Ta grand-mère habite-t-elle loin d’ici ?
– Oui, c’est très loin.
– Eh bien, dit le loup, moi aussi je voudrais rendre visite à ta grand-mère. Tu n’as qu’à prendre ce chemin, et moi, je prendrai l’autre.
Le loup partit et courut aussi vite qu’il lui était possible. La petite fille, quant à elle, prit le chemin le plus long. Elle marchait lentement en écoutant les oiseaux et elle cueillait des fleurs sur le chemin. Évidemment le loup arriva le premier à la maison de la grand-mère. Il frappa: toc, toc.
– Qui est là ?
– C’est votre petite fille, dit le loup en imitant la voix du Petit Chaperon rouge. Je vous apporte une galette et un petit pot de beurre.
– Entre ma petite ! Entre ! lui répondit la grand-mère.
Le loup ouvrit la porte, il sauta sur la grand-mère pour la dévorer. Ensuite, il referma la porte, il se coucha dans le lit de la grand-mère et attendit le Petit Chaperon rouge. Un peu plus tard, le Petit Chaperon rouge arriva chez la grand-mère, frappa à la porte : toc, toc.
– Qui est là ?
Comme le loup avait une grosse voix, la petite fille crut que sa grand-mère avait très mal à la gorge. Elle lui répondit :
– C’est votre petite fille, je vous apporte une galette et un petit pot de beurre.
Le loup lui répondit d’une voix douce :
– Entre ma petite ! Entre !
Le Petit Chaperon rouge ouvrit la porte. Et Le loup bien caché sous la couverture et lui dit :
– Pose la galette et le petit pot de beurre sur la table et viens te coucher avec moi.
Le Petit Chaperon rouge se déshabilla et se coucha près du loup. Sa grand-mère lui paraissait étrange. Elle lui dit :
– Grand-mère, que vos bras sont grands.
– C’est pour mieux t’embrasser, ma petite fille.
– Grand-mère, que vous avez de grandes jambes.
– C’est pour mieux courir, ma petite fille.
– Grand-mère, que vous avez de grandes oreilles.
– C’est pour mieux t’entendre, ma petite fille.
– Grand-mère, que vous avez de grandes dents.
– C’est pour mieux te manger.
Et le loup ne fit qu’une bouchée de la petite fille.
