يقول الله تعالى: ” وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاء كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ”. الماء هو أساس الحياة على الأرض، وهو عصب الحياة لجميع الكائنات الحية بلا استثناء، ودونه لا تكون هناك حياة، لا لإنسانٍ ولا لحيوانٍ ولا لنباتٍ، حتى إنّ جسم الإنسان يتكوّن في سبعين بالمئة من وزنه من الماء، وهذا دليلٌ قاطع على أهميّته. رغم أنّ الماء يُكوّن ثلاثة أرباع كوكب الأرض، إلا أننا نعاني من نقصٍ شديدٍ فيه في معظم أنحاء العالم، ذلك لأن معظم المسطحات المائية في الكرة الأرضية هي في الحقيقة ماء مالح لا يصلح للشرب إلّا بعد خضوعه لعمليّات معالجة طويلة ومكلفة، لذلك علينا جميعاً التوقف عن هدر الماء، وترشيده واستهلاكه بالشكل الأمثل، فالماء منحةٌ ربانية، واجبنا الحفاظ عليه لنا وللأجيال القادمة. لا تقتصر أهميّة الماء بحاجتنا له للشرب فقط، علماً أنّ حاجة الإنسان للشرب يومياً من الماء هي لترين للحفاظ على تكوين الجسم وبنيته، لأنّه المكون الرئيسي للدم، ولصحّة الخلايا وتكوينها، كما أننا نحتاج إلى الماء للنظافة الشخصية والنظافة العامة، وللغسيل والطهي وتنظيف الأواني، وهو مصدر مهم للحصول على مصدرٍ غذائيّ مفيد جداً ألا وهو المأكولات البحرية، كما أنّ الماء أساس جمال المكان، فهو الذي يمنح الطبيعة ثوبها الأخضر، وهو الذي يمنح الجو الرطوبة التي تجعل درجات الحرارة محتملة على سطح الأرض. وعلى صعيدٍ آخر، نحتاج الماء لتوليد وإنتاج الطاقة؛ فمن خلال المولدات التي تعمل على الماء نستطيع إنتاج الطاقة الكهربائية، كما يُستخدم أيضاً لأغراض الملاحة البحريّة والنهرية، حيث يتمّ تسيير السفن والبواخر والقوارب في ماء البحار والأنهار والمحيطات. ننوّه إلى أنّه علينا أن نتخذ جميع تدابير التوفير التي تتعلق بترشيد استهلاك الماء، مثل مراقبة صنابير الماء، ومنع تسريبها، وتجنب الإسراف والهدر الذي لا داعي له، ومن المهم أيضاً حمايته من أيّ مصدر من مصادر التلوث؛ كشبكات الصرف الصحي، وملوثات المصانع الكيميائية، والمبيدات الحشرية، والملوثات العضوية، لأن أي تلوث في الماء يُسبّب خللاً كبيراً وخطيراً في النظام البيئي. نهايةً، الماء الذي في كوكبنا ليس حكراً على أحد، وواجب حمايته والحفاظ عليه من الهدر والتلوث هو واجب الجميع، ولحسن الحظ توجد الآن آلاف الجمعيات والمؤسسات العامة والخاصة التي تم تأسيسها والإشراف عليها للحفاظ على الثروة المائية، كما ننوّه إلى أنّ الاهتمام بالماء دعت إليه جميع الدول العالميّة العظمى، وذلك للحفاظ عليه للأجيال القادمة كي نحيا في بيئةٍ متوازنة.
